Post 639 is proud to display a UH-1H (Huey) Helicopter on a static mounting in front of our post building. This Huey is serial number SN: 69-15051 US Army Stock number 1520000877637 and the original cost new is $922,704.00. This unit saw action in Vietnam in various capacities. The unit was last operational in the Oklahoma National Guard and was de commissioned at the Missouri AVCRAD in Springfield and transported to Post 639 by truck. Danny Melton was post commander and requested a "Huey" for static display on November 22, 1993 and on July 4, 1995 we had a big dedication ceremony.
We have had a lot of interest in the Huey and a lot of those that served on it in Vietnam have sent us pictures and have even visited the post to see the "bird" in person. A group of them and members of our post would like to restore it as close to its original condition as possible. That means a thorough cleaning inside and out, replacement of the "green house", maintenance on the exterior, repainting it to the original paint color and repainting the "nose art" to its original look.
To accomplish all of this we have formed a special restoration fund to gather the resources to accomplish the complete restoration. A bank account has been established in trust for the project.
