Phantom: I am so very glad to see your comments. I, like you, feel that
the "Forum" is under-used.
One of the things that I agree with you, very, very much, is making an
unfamiliar face entering the club feel welcome. I have been to the club on
Scenic a few times. It is a very nicely maintained, nice bartenders, and
"homely" looking place.
However, when I sit at the bar, with almost every bar seat occupied, and not
one person says hello, much less asks my name, where I live, do I come here
often, or at least acknowledge my presence (besides the bartender wanting my
money to pay for the drink I ordered), it is not conducive to making me feel
like coming back. I can get more attention standing on a street corner on
the northern part of town. Please understand that I am not saying this to
be mean, nor derogatory. I am just saying it as a person who belongs to
another "Legion" club in my home town of Ste. Genevieve and have been
thinking about transferring to the Springfield club. But why? It's no fun
sitting in a veteran's club talking to myself.
I am NOT saying that everyone should stop doing what they are doing, or
spend the next hour talking to me. Not at all. But it would be nice if
someone asked me my first name, and something along the lines of "I don't
recognize your face. Are you new here?"
I do not get out at all. Every once in a while I need to get away from my
wife....lol. One of things that I like about the VFW back in my hometown
(sorry for the competition), is that after a person gets to know a couple
people, they will offer to play a game of pool or darts. Not as a shark,
nor for money (although that can be discussed later :-)). Let's be honest
with each other. I would guess that 99 percent of the time, a person who
enters the "Legion" club comes there for some sort (and degree) of
social
interaction. I'm not looking for a life-time friend to begin with, nor
looking for a lot of attention---just a little bit of it.
With a reason to come back, I probably would participate a lot more in the
activities of the club. I also probably would spend a few more dollars at
the club.
Again, I am not trying to sound like an anti-social person. I am merely
being honest and giving my food for thought.
I will go so far as to sign as:
