Membership Information and
Roster
We are working to make this page available as a clearing house
of former units, etc. If you would like for us to list your information
and your old unit (s) email us with the information at information@post639.com
and we will put together the roster.
Post Juke Box Music List
Post 639 and its officers have made a commitment to get information about our
post on the internet so our members, absentee members and friends can stay
informed about our post and its activities. It is not meant to replace any
existing source, but rather to complement them. Here are some areas and
types of information that will be available to us locally and anywhere in the
world via the web site.
It will contain the names and phone numbers of all
officers and members (Roll Call) and all Auxiliary Members (Ladies and Sons) and
eventually list service dates and unit numbers. This will be invaluable for others looking for people from
their “old units” to be able to locate members of those units.
If anyone wants his or her information kept “private”, please inform
any officer of the Post and we will make sure sensitive information is not
included. We would really
appreciate everyone giving information about their dates of service, highest
rank, commendations, and countries of service and unit numbers to any Officer to
make sure it is included. This information will not be published until March to give
everyone a chance to get us the appropriate information.
The web will also contain “official” government
sites, so members can find the forms that are needed to “cut through
bureaucracy”. These links will be
to the VA, VA hospitals and other official sites for veterans.
We will also put “other” links to sites that might be of interest,
such a Vietnam Veteran’s groups, other American Legion Posts, POW-MIA
locations, etc.
We will have an area in the web that will be
information about post 639, how to join and also some of the history of the Post
and how it got started. We are
getting input from some of the “old” members, Phil, Mike, Sam, JC &
Burman, to name a couple about the people that started the post and maybe some
of the “stories” about the early days of Post 639.
There are rumors that the post was a little wild in the early days and
our reputation was not as a bunch of clean-cut, focused young men.
There are even some rumors about someone’s car ending up with a bunch
of bullet holes as souvenirs of some of our early members.
We will explore and include some of this colorful “early-day”
history.
There will be a page where all The Veteran’s
Voice publications starting in January 2004 will be available to be read
anywhere and will be “archived” on line so anyone can read back issues.
This will be great for our sons and daughters serving in the Military in
the US and in foreign countries. They
will also be able to stay in touch with us by emailing anyone in the post
through the web site. The emails
can be forwarded or printed and be available to anyone in the Post.
We will also have a page that will contain
information on activities and events of the Post, such as; BINGO (information on
where, what, when & how), community events, special events and parties (such
as a New Years eve party) and we will have pictures after the events so those
that couldn’t attend can see who did and how much fun it was.
This page will also link to a calendar that will show complete activities
and events of interest to Post 639 members.
We
have saved the best areas for the last. We will have a way for anyone that
wants to tell a story about his or her Military experiences to be able to do
so. We would like for members to give us a picture of themselves
"then and now", along with snap shots from their own files and a story
from the time when they served their country. The story might be serious
in nature, it may be heroic, it may be ironic, and it might be a funny story
about themselves or someone in their unit. The story can be as long or
short as needed and can be pretty much in any format we can read (typed, hand
written, computer file, or audio cassette). We will then do what needs to
be done to convert it and include it in our "memories" area of the web
page.
For those of you that feel you have something to say,
but no place to be heard, we will attempt to provide you with a Forum for those
feelings. You may use the same type
of media as is mentioned above and we will convert it and give you a place to
express your opinions. There are
only a few rules, such as; language (try to keep it reasonably clean, and if
not, we’ll clean it for you), you cannot advocate any criminal activity; you
cannot advocate overthrowing the government. You also have to give your name and
sign a waiver of liability (it’s your opinion and your responsibility).
We don’t care if you think Bush should be King, Queen or dogcatcher,
you will be able to state your views.
I would like to personally thank all the Officers and Members that have
been cooperative, enthusiastic and willing to help get our web site up and
running for the benefit of all our members.
We would like everyone to be understanding of what we are trying to
accomplish and also to remember “a journey of 1,000 miles starts with the
first step” and we have already taken more than one step.
Positive ideas about what we are trying to accomplish will be appreciated
along with any offering of help to make this the best web site of any Legion in
the country. Anyone can get
information to us by emailing information@vietnammemorialpost.us,
or leaving it with any Post Officer or Angel at the Post.
Bill Roark – Webmaster.
